I just don't understand how to manipulate gradients to make them so soft. Mine always have the hard line edge. I'm 59c23 with envy!

Redstar - Working with the alpha and using the same color at one end of the gradient that will overlay the beneath graphics usually smooths things out. Like where my feathers overlay the bigger feather graphic beneath - then sometimes I set the blend mode to whatever is appropriate for the layer such as overlay.
