They look like Max Fleischer birds... ready to dive into an inkpot as soon as something startles them.

I learned a lot by studying this one. I never use Phoenix but seeing how you did this is starting to spark my interest.

Both paper textures are just layered using blend modes. I think Multiply and Hardlight, but you can open the file and see for sure. :)
