Comparison of Blurring at different resolutions.egg

Comparison of Blurring at different resolutions.egg

The image on the right is blurred with a radius of 128, the image on the left is scaled down to 25%, then blurred at a radius of 128/4 = 32 and then scaled up by 400% again. Especially for big blur radii this is an optimization technique that can speed up things.

Well, it looks complicated. But the images look similar... ;)
And how much faster can you blur things with this new optimisation technique?
25%?, 50%?, 100%?, 200%? 300%?

WAIT: Why don't we just send our complicated calculations to the clouds - ehm - the Aviary Supercomputer (code-name: The Klingemann) ... :P

It only looks complicated since I have run both strands to visualize the difference. Usually it's just adding two scalers. I think it speeds up the whole process quite a bit - especially for big radii.
