I've used the same basic set of hubs to make this and many of my other backgrounds. I suggest opening the file in peacock and taking a look at it there. I'll also try to remember the basic steps I took.

-Start with a simple shape (shape doesn't matter it's getting distorted anyway)
-Use two fractal plasmas/perlin noises (either one works, this one used fractal plasmas) and a displacement map. I generally set the displacement pretty high. This will give you a weird splatterish shape.
-Create a gradient with the colors you want on your swirly thing.
-Use a masker and put the gradient onto your splatterish shape (Very technical terms here ;)
-Last but not least make a shape draw and under the drawing tab set the spacing to the smallest it will go (.2 i think) and then you can adjust the shape/size/rotation/etc. to make it how you want it.
